Potatoes of Peru

The potato was first domesticated 7 000 – 10 000 years ago, in the region of contemporary southern Peru and northwestern Bolivia. Today, there are about 5000 species of potato worldwide. 3000 of them are found in the Andes region alone, primarily in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador.
