Tapity Releases Interactive Book For iBooks, Future of Publishing Edges Ever Closer

Tapity, a three-man family operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, will tomorrow launch one of the first fully interactive books to exist on Apple’s iBooks platform. Called “Cleaning Mona Lisa," an essay by art historian and TV host Lee Sandstead about the importance of art restoration, the book combines text, videos, photo galleries, interactive graphics, and seamless browsing.

This approach to publishing is nothing new.

At this point, the fact that Facebook (s fb) is struggling with its mobile strategy is not really news. The company itself flagged the issue in its pre-IPO documents, saying advertising revenue is not keeping up with expectations, and its $1 billion Instagram purchase was widely seen as an admission that it needs a lot of help in the mobile department.

Skydiving Goes Wrong: 80-year-old woman almost falls out of parachute harness on video

It was an eightieth birthday present to herself that went horribly wrong, when California senior Laverne Everett jumped out of an airplane and almost out of her tandem skydiving harness to her death.

Of course, the now 81-year-old told CBS news, she had no idea what kind of danger she was in during the jump, only finding out about it when she watched the terrifying video after the fact.

He headed up engineering for Steve Jobs, first at NeXT, then at Apple (AAPL), where he built the iMac, the PowerBook, the Power Macintosh and the iPod, before "retiring" a few weeks after publicly dissing the idea of merging a phone with a media player.
